1.       Welcome/Introductions

2.       Mom 2 Mom Sale: Leigha Christensen and Cari O’Connor from the Ionia Great Start Collaborative spoke about their efforts to support the Vital Needs Initiative in their county by holding a Mom 2 Mom Sale.  Leigha and Cari described the purpose of the sale, how to set the sale up, logistics, financial considerations and practical applications of the sale. PC members discussed the feasibility of holding such a sale in Montcalm County. Further discussion and consideration was needed by PC members to explore holding the sale. If any PC members would like to become a “point person” for this project, to further explore holding this event, please contact  Susan Sunden at the information located below.

3.       Literacy Initiative: Ryan White spoke about the new momentum happening with the newly formed Literacy Group in Montcalm County. Ryan discussed the countywide efforts that are being coordinated by himself, Linda Ferguson of Rotary, Marty Combs, of the ISD, Great Start Staff, and the Literacy Council to further literacy among young families. Ryan is currently holding a “Read and Sing” event the first Monday of every month at the Stanton Baptist Church from 6-7:00pm. Ryan described his need for books and funding to further expand these efforts.  The PC decided to help by holding book drives in local schools, businesses and agencies. Chemical Bank of Stanton is partnering with the PC to assist with these book drives.  Ryan  and Susan Sunden will coordinate to develop flyers and explore baby pantry inclusion as a distributor of the books.  Susan Sunden will coordinate with Linda Ferguson of the Rotary . Mary Peterson volunteered to coordinate on behalf of Chemical Bank. Other PC members will coordinate in our local schools, and appropriate local agencies as soon as the communications/flyer is developed.

4.       Parent Leadership Institute: A flyer was distributed to members about an upcoming conference that may be open to parents wishing to attend  February 4th and 5th. More information is on the way. Stay tuned.

5.       Service/Legislative Education Events: A brief discussion was held regarding a possible February sledding event  that would pair nicely with a unique legislative message.  If this sounds like fun to you,  and any PC member would like to b ecome a “point person” on this event contact Susan Sunden at the information below.

6.       NEXT MEETING FOR THE EAST SIDE/STANTON PC: DECEMBER 1, 2009, CHEMICAL BANK, STANTON MICHIGAN.
