Parent Coalition Minutes

Chemical Bank, Stanton Michigan.

December 1, 2009

Present:  Brenda Greenhoe,  Mary Peterson, Jyll Mitchell,  Lisa Lund

1.       Welcome! Brenda Greenhoe and Jyll Mitchell  to co-chair the meeting as Susan Sunden was absent.

2.       Mom 2 Mom Sale: Discussion regarding initiating planning for this event after the first of the year (Jan. 2010). Lisa Lund volunteered to chair this event.  Explore community agencies as host, not schools.

3.       Literacy Project, Book Drive: Discussion ensued regarding having the book drive during the month of March, since March is Parenting month, as well as Reading month. Chemical Bank locations in Montcalm County have agreed to be drop box locations. Mary Peterson of Chem bank will organize the event from that end. Need to explore further having drop boxes in schools in addition to Chem Bank versus only at Chem Bank. A contact person for the schools (1 per school) would need to be identified to set up a drop box, make contact with the principal, introduce the project and then collect books to bring back to the PC meetings. Beneficiaries of the book drive would be 1. Read and Sing, First Baptist, Stanton., 2. Vestaburg Baby Pantry, 2. Stanton Baby Pantry, 3. Alpha Women’s Center/Pantries and 4. Jesus Pantry/Karen Morales.

4.       Bookmarks would be distributed again this year in March to support both March is Reading Month and March is Parenting Month.

5.       Family Fun Day at MCC: April 2010, PC will have a booth. Any volunteers to help man it from either PC?

6.       Sledding Event:  West Side PC is handling the organization of this event. Suzie Batenburg  at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
