Parent Coalition Minutes

Heritage United Methodist Church

January 26, 2010

Present: Mishawn Zudweg, Susan Sunden, Katrina Corwin, Suzie Batenburg, Debbie MacTavish, Elizabeth MacTavish, Brenda Hall, David Princer

1.      Welcome

2.      Position Changes in Great Start Collaborative.  Susan Sunden announced that she would be taking over the Director position and that Mishawn Zudweg would now be the new Parent Liaison.

3.       Sledding Event: The PC celebrated the success of the sledding event held on December 29th.  The sleds will be presented to Rep. Huckleberry & Sen. Cropsey at the Legislative Luncheon on February 22nd.  We are looking for parent coalition members to attend in support of this presentation.  We may look into doing another sledding event, but that was tabled once the Walk for Warmth information was presented.

4.       Walk for Warmth:  Information for the Walk for Warmth program in Greenville was presented to the PC.  Dave Princer gave details for the group since he has participated in this event before.  (An email w/ the information was sent via email to the coalition).  The group decided & committed to doing a Soup Booth at this year’s event.  It is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27th.  Our PC will choose a soup & put together a booth w/ information regarding the Parent Coalition and the Great Start program.  Suzie Batenburg, Dave Princer, Mishawn Zudweg, Susan Sunden (?) & Katrina Corwin (?) plan to be involved in this effort.  The group also decided to “sample” our soup entry at our next PC Meeting, Feb. 23rd.  PC Members were instructed to get a supplies list to Mishawn & Sue so that items could be purchased accordingly.

5.       Diaper Drive:   Katrina Corwin has had contact w/ a local band who is willing to donate music for the event if needed.  Location & date needs to be decided.  We discussed having Helping Hands in Howard City be the recipient of the donations.  There was discussion about tying this event to perhaps the Harvest Festival, or some sort of community event.  We will continue to explore this topic in the coming months.

6.      Parent Leadership Training:  Information regarding the Parent Leadership training that will be available on Feb. 9th in Newaygo Co. was presented to the group. RSVPs are due by Feb. 1st.

The next West Side PC meeting is February 23, 2010 at Heritage United Methodist Church, 19931 W. Kendaville Rd. Pierson, MI. 49339 @ 6:30 pm

Respectfully Submitted,

Mishawn Zudweg, BBA
