Great Start Montcalm Parent Coalition Minutes Chemical Bank, Stanton, Michigan February 2, 2010 Present: Ryan White, Susan Sunden, Jyll Mitchell, Lisa Lund, Mary Peterson, Brenda Greenhoe, Mishawn Zudweg 1. Welcome! Introductions! 2. Literacy Project, Book Drive: Mary Peterson is chairing this event. Final preparations were discussed; Mishawn will contact Penny Dora about getting the flyer out to all schools in the county. If additional follow-up is needed, Mishawn will let Mary know. Mary will also work on getting the Book Drive advertised in local newspapers. Approval for any fees & ad layout will be done by Susan Sunden. Sue will also get labels made for the inside of each book. Discussion was made about a “slogan” on each label, i.e. …… Once we know about how many books we have, the labels will be ordered. 3. Parent Leadership Training: Parent Leadership training is available on Feb. 9th in Newaygo Co. at 6:00 pm for those who would like leadership training & empowerment. Back to School/Winter Weather Wear Drive: Lisa Lund is chairing this event. The PC has decided to change the focus from a Mom 2 Mom Sale to a Back to School & Winter Weather Wear Drive for the fall of 2010. Lisa has had contact w/ several people in the faith-based community. Mishawn Zudweg will contact the schools in our county for feedback by Feb. 28th. Lisa would like to hold a forum in March/April to facilitate the needs of our county & ways to partner & support these types of events in our community. We discussed holding the forum the week of April 19th or April 26th. It would be a lunch meeting; lunch provided by the PC. 5. Walk for Warmth: Information regarding Walk for Warmth was presented by Mishawn. Members were asked if they would like to participate with the PC members from the West Side. Lisa Lund said she may participate. Brenda Greenhoe plans to participate at the Alma location on Feb. 20th. 6. Susan Sunden announced that we would be presenting the Sleds that were signed at the Sledding Event on Dec. 29th at the Legislative Luncheon on February 22nd. We would like as many parent representatives to attend to give a strong support in this effort. Please wear your Great Start Montcalm blue polo shirts.
